Memories of a Garibaldian

A true gem of a find, this is a manuscript written by a volunteer in Garibaldi’s army, who, as a recent law graduate, defied his parents’ wishes and immigration laws in order to pursue what he saw as his duty to his country. It is translated into English here for the first time. It was never commercially published; only 200 copies were printed for the author’s friends and associates. It details the author’s day-to-day activities and hardships, as well as anecdotes about the Garibaldians and Garibaldi himself, all witnessed first-hand by someone who served as a guide to the general.Reading about the everyday activities behind major historical events adds color and texture to those events and makes you feel as though you are there. If you enjoy that type of historical writing. you will appreciate this book.Read more
