How to Change an Evangelical or Fundamentalist Mind: A Definitive Guide

What happens when two decades of rigorous, good-faith arguments fail to change a single mind? For more than twenty years, researcher Brien Norris embarked on an ambitious project in the trenches of real-world interaction—in church basements, at coffee shop debates, and across family dinner tables. He deployed the best tools of logic, science, and historical criticism in conversations with hundreds of committed Evangelicals and Fundamentalists. His goal was simple: to find a definitive method for opening a mind sealed by faith. This book is the result of that exhaustive study.Inside, you will find a comprehensive catalog of the most compelling arguments against core fundamentalist beliefs—from the historical origins of God to the contradictions within the biblical text. Each chapter meticulously documents the argument presented, the common rebuttal, and the stark, often humorous, final result of the exchange. But the true secret of this book lies not in its catalog of failed debates, but in its profound and unexpected final section: a complete transcript of a civil, respectful dialogue that reveals the one approach that truly works. In this one-of-a-kind guide, you will discover:The most common ways logical arguments are deflected by faith.A clear-eyed look at the historical and psychological underpinnings of modern belief. Why the goal of "winning" a debate is destined to fail.A complete, actionable model for having productive, meaningful conversations across the deepest of divides. How to Change an Evangelical or Fundamentalist Mindbegins as the book youthinkit is, and ends as the book our world desperatelyneeds.
