Hack: Comedy fiction titles

IT'S THE SCOOP OF A LIFETIME, AND MIGHT JUST SAVE HIS CAREER ... IF THEY DON'T KILL HIM FIRSTPortsmouth. England. The 1990s.Meet Llew Sabler, a ferociously ambitious newspaper reporter who'll stop at nothing to reach the top.'You're meant to write the news, notbethe news,' blasts his long-suffering editor, after Llew's latest madcap stunt sparks public outrage. There is only one thing Llew lusts after more than success: his fellow reporter and close friend, the bewitchingly violent Thirza Kirkby. When his oldest pal - serial virgin Emdel Black - steals Thirza's heart, lovesick Llew loses his mind, and takes fake news to disgraceful new levels. He's collared by the cops, becomes a hate figure and is left facing a jail term. With ruin looming, Llew unearths a shocking and dangerous story. But it's much more than just a story. It's a death or glory shot at redemption.Hack is a fast paced black comedy, bristling with memorable male and female characters, and crackling with dark British wit.Buy it, for a white-knuckle black-comedy ride into the dark underbelly of the local press of old.-------------------------------------------------------WHAT THEY'RE SAYING ABOUT HACK'Ashcroft establishes his humour from the explosive first page, and I frequently laughed out loud. Hack is quick moving, has a strong cast of characters and is very entertaining.'Whispering Stories'Hack thrums with wit and controversy. It's clear from SGM Ashcroft's penmanship that he's a journalist. His writing is of a different order.'Review Tales'Unique. Hack is fast paced, action packed and irreverent, and yet has real depth. And although dark in places, Ashcroft kept a smile on my face throughout. A very promising debut.'Bookwormex'SGM Ashcroft is just plain funny, yet is as painfully honest as he is outrageously humorous.'Books R&BRead more
