Doc Down Under: An American Emergency Doc's Family Adventures in Australia & New Zealand

A mid-career American Emergency Doc goes off the deep end and relocates with his bewildered wife and five school-aged kids from Upstate New York to exotic Australia. Chaos, hilarity and wild Oz adventures ensue. Briskly paced; informative, insightful and entertaining in equal measure, "Doc Down Under" covers a wide array of timely topics including Australian/ New Zealand family adventure travel and natural history; contemporary Aussie lifestyle and culture, as well as US/ Australian comparative healthcare systems. Doc's philosophical musings focus on the realities of expat family life; the risks, rewards and hard-earned lessons of actually making such a professional sea change happen. As Doc is also an avid guitarist and songwriter, the book also briefly explores the effects of travel and dislocation on the creative process, through songwriting specifically. In a nutshell, "Doc Down Under" is a wild, witty whirlwind of American expat family life and travels for over six years in the great lands Down Under. It's a read and journey not to be missed by those with a keen interest in exploring life and medicine in Australia, personal/ professional career burnout and rejuvenation, or by those contemplating a similar "Great Leap" into another life overseas, of whatever age or profession. Please have a read, and you just might find yourself getting carried away, and going off the deep end in Oz too, along with Doc and the whole Nolan family. Cheers..! DDURead more
