Cursed Earth

“I can never go back to Terrenia,” Maxine said in a low voice. “If someone finds out…”“… that you have unusual abilities?”“That I’m a freak – yes, a freak – I will be facing worse than deportation.”Maxine Everett's hidden powers place her in danger under the dictatorial government of Terrenia. The ruling regime worships the Earth element and labels people with an affinity to other elements as unstable and treacherous. When Maxine receives an order of relocation to Demergia, a continent of dreary wilderness on the edge of the world, her prospects seem bleak. She finds hope and purpose by setting up a school for poor children in the decrepit Academy building.Maxine's life gets interesting as she runs into Rupert, a charming and ambitious young man; Reid, a taciturn researcher with a secret past; and Ceridwen, a sorceress who guides her onto a path of self-discovery that is as exhilarating as it is risky.Meanwhile, a great danger is creeping upon a conflict-torn world. Mysterious forces threaten to sow chaos and destruction that overturn the order of Elements. A solution may exist, but will Terrenia's arrogant rulers listen before it's too late? This action-packed tale blends elemental magic and high-stakes intrigue in a Victorian-like setting with steampunk-y and gothic flavors.Read more
